Quantitative assessment of oxytocin-stimulated oviduct contractions of the ewe by optoelectronic measurements.

چکیده
An optoelectronic instrument, developed to record the muscular activity of the oviduct was used to monitor the effects of oxytocin on oviductal contractions in intact ewes. The transducer consisted of one light emitting diode opposed by two phototransistors and their associated lead wires molded into a "C" shaped cuff in a clear orthodontic resin. The resulting optoelectronic transducer was attached extraluminally to the ampuUary re#on of the oviduct with a cyanoacrylate tissue glue. Lead wires were exteriorized through the flank and connected to the external system electronics to record changes in the light transmittance (LT) resulting from contractions of the oviduct. Recordings from an in vitro experiment using simuItaneous force and optoelectronic transducers confirmed that changes in oviduct contractile activity induced by oxytocin were accurately reflected in the optoelectronic transducer signal. Four ewes were instrumented to test how oxytocin treatment during the luteal phase altered the frequency of oviductal contractions. Twenty-four hours after implanting the cuff, logarithmically increasing doses of oxytocin were administered via jugular catheter at 5-hr intervals to each ewe. The ampullaty contraction frequency before treatment ranged from 12 to 18 cycles per minute. This contraction frequency increased, and its amplitude decreased within the first min post-oxytocin injec-

Effects of ketotifen on oxytocin-induced contraction in the isolated rat uterus
Preterm labor is one of the major causes of neonatal mortality and morbidity. Despite significant improvement in care for premature neonates, the most suitable and inexpensive treatment is prevention of preterm labor by inhibiting uterine contractions. The aim of this research is to obtain scientific evidence for the relaxant effect of ketotifen on the rat uterus and to provide the preclinica...
متن کاملQuantitative Assessment of Muscle Fatigue for FES Research Studies
Background: Muscle fatigue is an important issue in neuromuscular rehabilitation. Better control of this phenomenon would result in better prevention of its consequent physiological damages. Objective: To provide a mathematical representation of muscle fatigue as a function of time. Methods: We conducted this study by combining the EMG-based estimation methods of muscle activation with the availa...
متن کاملMotility of the oviduct and uterus of the cow during the oestrous cycle.
Recordings of electrical activity of the oviduct and uterus were obtained during three oestrous cycles in cows fitted with an extra-cellular multi-electrode assembly. The stages of the cycle were identified by the appearance of the cervico-vaginal secretions and changes in the peripheral plasma level of progesterone were determined by radioimmunoassay. A gradual transition from local non-propag...
متن کاملSpasmolytic effect of Vitis vinifera hydroalcoholic leaf extract on the isolated rat uterus
Although leaf of Vitis vinifera (Vitaceae) has been used in traditional medicine to treat diarrhea, but no clinical and experimental studies have been conducted on its effects on the uterus. It has previously been reported that Vitis vinifera leaf extract reduces the ileum contractions induced by KCl and acetylcholine. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of Vitis vinifera...
متن کاملInhibitory effect of spironolactone on the contractions of the rabbit uterine horn and the human myometrial strip.
The spontaneous contractions of the rabbit uterine horns and the human myometrial strips were stimulated by oxytocin and buserelin acetate in isolated preparations. Spironolactone application to these models produced inhibitory effects on the contractions. It is concluded that spironolactone has inhibitory effect on the rabbit uterine horn and the human myometrial strip contractions.
